LOGICAL FALLACIES

Straw Man Fallacy: When a person intentionally distorts his opponent’s argument so that it is easier to discredit

Non Sequitir: A conclusion that does not logically follow from the information given.

Example: If A; then B

Not A.

—Therefore not B.

If I am  in Cleveland, then I am in Ohio.

I am not in Cleveland

—Therefore, I am not in Ohio.

This form of the non sequitir is also called: denying the antecedent

Another non sequitir fallacy (common in advertising):

If i wear designer clothes i will cease being a social outcast.  (Wearing designer clothes does not guarantee that the person will be accepted by others–it may lead to further ridicule.)
