Quotation 4: Temptation

“The beginning of all evil temptations is inconstancy of mind, and too little trust in God. For as a ship without a guide is driven hither and thither with every storm, so an unstable man, that anon leaveth his good purpose in God, is diversely tempted. The fire proveth gold, and temptation proveth the righteous man.”

—Ascribed to Thomas a Kempis

(May Allah give us the strength and the singleness of purpose to resist temptation.  Ameen.  As a note regarding these quotations, I am not claiming to agree with everything these writers and thinkers have said or believed.  Nonetheless, people of various backgrounds have said profound and weighty maxims and proverbs, and it doesn’t hurt to consider these insightful reflections.)
